This song came out of fooling around with DADGAD tuning a few summers ago. You'll hear what came out in the acoustic guitar track here. I did a good bit of the recording then (2019), but just came back to this in the last few weeks to add the vocals, electric guitar, and whatever knowledge I've gained in the last 3 years about making a recording sound a little better.
This song is in the spirit of lots of other songs that exhort those listening to help make this world a better place. That type of song always appealed to me as offering a bit of hope in the midst of chaos, confusion, self-centeredness, fears, etc. I'm thinking of things like Love's In Need of Love Today by Stevie Wonder, Love is the Answer by Todd Rundgren, or even All You Need is Love from the Beatles.
This lyrics here aren't so overtly Love centered, but if the message is heard and accepted, and taken to heart...hey, who knows?
lyrics
Wondering since this morning, now been at it most the day
Still never seems a way to end the fights.
The pain and hurt and sorrow sure can make us lose our way,
there's simple words can help to make it right
Golden Rule-it's doing unto others
Golden Rule-how you want it done to you
Golden Rule-try looking at each other
Golden Rule-how you want them to see you
We've heard it, maybe read it, seen it pass along our way,
Forgotten in the haze from way back when.
But it's still true, you know it, can't be lost in yesterday.
To make it work, first try it with a friend.
Golden Rule....
Caring boy, smiling man
Sharing all their best, and doing everything they can.
Peaceful woman, and loving girl
Sending out some joy into the whole big troubled world...
Here they go!
It's time to send it out there in a thought and in a word.
Don't keep it in, it's time to let it out
We got to make it happen here, it's time to take your turn
A whisper first, but turn it to a shout
Golden Rule.....
Caring boy, smiling man
Sharing all their best, and doing everything they can.
Peaceful woman, and loving girl
Sending out some joy into the whole big troubled world...
Here they go!

Very exciting gig captured on a recent tour. Kurt Rosenwinkel in a different setting than you might expect. Well worth hearing, and getting to know this project. Jswetch
The absolute master! What more can be said. 70+ and still writing and playing great stuff with a smoking band. Great to hear some re-visits of Mahavishnu tunes too. Jswetch
